Chapter 8 - Preaching in the Rain
What a glorious feeling, I'm working again!" -Me as Elder Martinez and I navigate our way through the flooded streets of La Esperanza.
It rains a lot here. I mean, it really only rained like 4 times this week but every time it rained, it came down hard. But it's not too bad, we just get used to walking in muddy shoes.
Anyway this week has been awesome! Today marks 2 months in the mission! We've taught lots of lessons and continued our work of helping our little branch grow strong! Elder Martinez and I made cookies the other day to give to investigators and members we've been focusing on and it's amazing to see how far a little service can go! We found our investigators to be more open and receptive and the members more excited to greet us at church. So yea, service is important.
This week has really just been a lot of the same stuff, and at times it seems like we've run up against a wall and aren't having any progress. But it's at these moments when you really just need the faith to keep on working and trust that the Lord can work miracles. One of those miracles came earlier this week when we planned for the day and realized we were jam packed with appointments all day in several parts around town. We weren't sure how we'd be able to keep all these commitments and visit all the people we needed to in the day. But we planned and had faith that the Lord would prepare a way for us to do everything we needed. It was crazy. At the end of the day, we got home right on time, not a minute to spare, and had taught every lesson we planned, visited every member we wanted to, and had even had a large number of contacts and unplanned lessons taught. We honestly have no idea how it happened, but we know we've been blessed.
Anyway, I'm really grateful for this wonderful work I'm engaged in. And as you've probably seen from the opening of this letter I've been in a musical mood recently, so I'll leave you all with my rendition of a popular number from The Sound of Music:
"MISSIONARY:
Joe, a seer, a modern-day seer
Ray, far brighter than the sun
Me? his name, he was called by
For his mission to restore
So he translated the plates
Law, in its fulness is found
Tea, a drink we shouldn't have...
INVESTIGATOR: Wait, why don't you drink tea?
MISSIONARY:
And that brings us back to Joe!"
Love you all!
Elder Jensen
