Chapter 37: Haven't gone hammocking since college

Image
Henry's Baptism!  Elder Chinchilla  Spending the night in hammocks! Hey guys! We had a SUPER crazy week this week! Elder Uceda (from the seventy and President of the Central American Area) visited our mission and had training meetings with all the missionaries! It was so cool! It was a unique experience because as a secretary I got to attend both multizone conferences he held and the leader's council. He spoke a lot about how talking is not teaching, and how we need to help the people we teach  live  the Gospel, not just  learn about  it. He also left some specific promises with us, promised success if we gave heed to his counsel and he shared some really spiritual experiences. It was soo cool! Elder Chinchilla and I had a gnarly weekly planning session with some awesome goals and specific plans to help the people we teach in the way Elder Uceda told us we should. As much fun as the conferences were, it was a VERY busy week for Elder...

Chapter 36: I can't believe it's already March

Hey guys, I don't have too much time left to write, just wanted to let you know I'm still alive. We're working hard with Henry, please pray for him, we're hoping that this week is the week for him! Also I can't believe how fast time is passing by! We're already almost halfway through March! I really am loving the mission and my time out here. It's not always easy, but I'm grateful for the opportunity the Lord has given me to share His Gospel. Sorry this is really short, it'll be better next time, I promise. Love you guys! Elder Jensen

Chapter 35: I'm so tired

Hey guys, sorry to write everyone so late . Don't worry mom, I have permission to be emailing. This week we have transfers! So I've spent more than half the day  not  preparing for the week, but that's okay. I also woke up really early so I'm already exhausted. But lemme tell ya, it's been a good time. This week has been good. Our boy Henry is still working on his coffee drinking so we still haven't had his baptism, but he's on date for the 16th. We're giving him some time to  really  cut it out completely. Also, yesterday, we had a FAMILY come to church. That's right, a MOM a DAD and their SON. WOOHOO. I have really high hopes for these guys, Mauricio (the father) is really busy so we don't see him too often, but he's been reading El Libro de Mormón and is really about the whole get-married-to-get-baptized thing our Church has going on. And his wife (girlfriend?) Gloria is SUPER sweet and their 13 year-old son Emil has literally giv...

Chapter 34: A Pretty Uneventful Week

Hey guys! Another good week on the mission. Just this week didn't have anything too special happen. We had interviews with our President and that was nice. Henry didn't get baptized because he drank coffee BUT he's been going strong since Monday so we're certain this week is the week for him! Things in the office have been pretty relaxed, but this week we're going to be prepping for transfers, which is always an adventure. So here's a something spiritual to give this email some substance: As a mission, we're reading the Book of Mormon together. Before starting, I read a Liahona article that Hank Smith wrote a few years ago about how the Book of Mormon teaches us how to be happy. So as I've been reading this time through, I've taken time to mark any scripture that has to do with happiness and let me tell you, there's a LOT. It's helped me realize that there are many things we can do to find happiness in this life, and all of t...

Chapter 33: Stake Conference

Image
Locking my companion in the bathroom. Hey guys! I had a pretty eventful week! Last week as Elder Chinchilla and I did our weekly planning we realized we didn't have a whole lot of progressing investigators... and that made us sad. So we determined that we were going to work hard and focus on teaching people who are truly ready to receive the Gospel. And it worked! On Tuesday our zone leaders were kind enough to sacrifice a few hours of work in their area to do divisions with us to help us find new people and teach a few investigators that were having some difficulties. We started the day with just 1 person with a baptismal date and ended with 3! Elder Chinchilla and Elder Sullivan (our zone leader) went and taught a couple we had contacted a couple weeks ago and they said they had been waiting for us to come back and share more! After teaching the Restoration, they accepted the invitation to be baptized and are on date for April! (they've got to get married fi...
