Chapter 74: Happy Thanksgiving!
Elder Ordoñez and I
Pretty lights in Comayagua center (I'll have to get a picture of the big Christmas tree they put up a couple days ago)
The golf course this morning (I'll send more golf pics next week)
Happy Turkey Day!
It's been a fun week!
Update on the people we're teaching:
Miguel - 9 year old kid from an inactive family. We've gotten his older siblings to start coming back to church every week, and yesterday his grandma came too! We're waiting for his dad to come back from Mexico to be present for his baptism
Freddy - 50 year old nephew of a recent convert. Really fun guy, invited us to his granddaughter's birthday party last Friday! He was going to get baptized a couple weeks ago, but has some challenges with the Word of Wisdom, so pray for him pls.
A Thanksgiving Miracle:
On Thanksgiving, my companion and I went out to a fancy restaurant for dinner which was nice. We got some really good food (carne asada
) but what was EVEN COOLER was when we got home that night, we got a call around 9:30 from some recent converts, they told us to come outside. When we went outside, a car rolled down their window and these guys gave us A TON OF FOOD!! Plates of turkey, ham, stuffing, the whole shabang and best of all - PUMPKIN PIE!!!!!!! I was soo grateful for that family, they're the bomb.
Heartwarming Stuff:
Today marks the start of my last 6 months in the mission! It's crazy how time flies so quickly! I'm really happy with where I am, and have set some goals to become a better disciple of Jesus Christ. On Thanksgiving, I also spent some time to think of all the things I'm grateful for and said a prayer to thank God for the many blessings He's given me. Some of the things I'm most grateful for are:
-The opportunity to share the Gospel in Honduras
-Parents who have loved me and supported me through good times and bad
-My area has a nice golf course in it
-Baleadas, Honduras Tacos, Catrachas y otras comidas típicas
-My mission friends
-The Book of Mormon
-Eternal Families
-The fact that I only have 6 months left
-The fact that I still have 6 months left!
-Pumpkin Pie
Sometimes in life, we get discouraged, we are weighed down by our trials and our difficulties, and sometimes we tend to be a bit pessimistic. But if we open our eyes and recognize the blessings God has given us, we can be assured that He still loves us, that we have a purpose for being here, and that in the end, everything will be ok. I love the mission, and I'm so grateful that I've been able to develop such a close relationship with my Savior in these past 17 months. He is always there when we need Him, so don't forget to turn to Him in hard times. Also, don't forget to thank Him in the happy moments for everything He has given you.
I love you all, and don't forget to make good choices!
Elder Jensen
