Hello everyone, we're officially one month into the field! Transfers are nigh upon us, however I'm still being trained so there isn't any chance of Elder Martinez and I going anywhere.
Soooo we've been working hard, contacting a lot, teaching lessons, inviting people to come to church, trying to reactivate families and all that jazz, with minimal results. It's real unfortunate, however I know that Elder Martinez and I are really giving it all that we can and that if we stay diligent, we will be blessed one way or another. And besides, we do have a few investigators that have baptismal dates coming up, we're hoping to have our first on September 29th with a dear investigator named Paola (and maybe her sister a couple weeks later!) so... pray for us.
This week we had a unique experience that really showed that we are being led by the Spirit even when we might not realize it. Recently, we have been working with a dear less-active priority family on the other end of town. The father has been having some health issues and also struggles with the Word of Wisdom. A couple nights ago we had several appointments fall through. As we were walking to our last scheduled appointment, Elder Martinez said he wanted to go check up on this family, even though they lived on the clear other end of town. So, we went to our last appointment, then left to go visit this family. When we arrived, we only found the father home, who had evidently been drinking. We could have been upset, we could have been discouraged, we could have done a lot of things. But as we walked in, this dear brother began to cry. The Spirit prompted Elder Martinez and I not to say anything. This brother began to discuss and share several other problems and trials he has been going through lately. After a several minutes, his wife and kids came home. It was as if his wife had expected or known that we would be in her home by the time she got back. After her husband finished speaking with us, Elder Martinez and I shared Helaman 5:12, expressed our love and testified of the enabling power of the Atonement. We also testified in the love Christ has for this family, as evidenced by the arrival of the missionaries in their moment of greatest need. It was a truly spiritual experience.
In the end, I know that God is our loving Heavenly Father and he hears and answers our prayers. In our moments of deepest anguish, the Savior is there, His Spirit will comfort us, and we can find strength through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
I love you all,
Until next week,
Elder Jensen
