Chapter 12: Bad haircuts, good numbers

. Elder Martinez and I stop in the road for a spontaneous study session

A road with a beautiful view that would make for a gnarly sledding hill

 A regular neighborhood road

The end of this road, which leads into nothing, the abyss of the Central American forest jungle that is constantly just out of reach

Another week of working hard and serving the Lord.

I know last week I promised an awesome letter, but we didn't end up meeting any general authorities so... Sorry. I'll make this letter as cool as I can.

Last Monday Elder Martinez and I got really bad haircuts. It was hideous. Luckily, we had some haircutting stuff back in our house so Elder Martinez fixed mine (because it was absolutely atrocious). I don't have pictures and, even if I did, I wouldn't send them. I learned that in Honduras, anyone with a rusty pair of sisters can put up a sign that says "barber" 🙄

But this week we had a lot of good times! Elder Martinez is getting increasingly more and more baggy because he leaves at the end of October, but he still works really hard. After an entire transfer of struggling in this area, we had a ton of people in church yesterday! We had over 60 people in sacrament meeting, 5 of which were our investigators! We also put up a ton of baptismal dates so we're hoping for a good harvest come October! I know that if we keep working hard, we will be blessed one way or another!

So now I'm going to take some time to answer some questions I've been asked. If you have any questions, send them to me and I'll gladly answer:

Who are you teaching? What are they like?

Here's a rundown of our top few investigators:
Javier - mid-40s guy who just showed up to church with a member a few weeks ago. Elder Martinez and I call him the "Hype Man" because he's just so cool and gets everyone hype to come to church. He's scheduled to get baptized the 13th of October
Paola - 23 year old single mom. She was a contact, she's really sweet and has had a couple cool experiences. She's scheduled to get baptized on my birthday!
Heber, Carlos, Walter - Heber and Walter are 14, Carlos is Heber's 15 year old brother. These boys all live in an apartment complex where it's really just one big family. Almost a year ago, some sister missionaries in this area taught them lessons but their parents wouldn't let them get baptized. Their parents seem more cooperative now, and they are all scheduled to get baptized on my birthday. They love to have fun and play sports.

Do you tract a lot? How do you knock on doors?

We tract all the time. Most people have walls surrounding their houses so we usually stand outside the gates and shout "¡Buenas días!" (or tardes or noches, depending on the time of day).

What lessons do you teach?

Preach My Gospel chapter 3: Lessons 1 and 3 are the lessons we've taught the most.
With members, we've been trying to get people to get excited for Conference and to go to the temple. We've shared President Oaks' most recent conference talk: Small and Simple Things.

Until next week! Love you all!
Elder Jensen
