Chapter 58: Please Come to Church

It has been a week. We've been working hard out here.

Homeboy José:
José is a very sweet, very humble old man that lives in our area. Some elders first started teaching him about a year ago, and when I first got to the area, the Elder's Quorum President suggested that we visit him. Well, we did and at first we'd only show up every once in a while because he really wasn't progressing, couldn't come to church due to his age and the distance, but he always opens his doors to us.

A few weeks ago I got the impression that we should start visiting him more frequently. We've always just showed up, taught a couple principles, and read the Book of Mormon with him. He can't read due to his eyesight, but he loves to listen to us read and explain the stories to him. This last Thursday we went to visit him and read Mosiah 18 and explained baptism to him. We then invited him to be baptized and his reaction was very similar to the reaction the people gave Alma in verse 11:
"11 And now when the people had heard these words, they clapped their hands for joy, and exclaimed: This is the desire of our hearts."
We're now visiting a lot more and helping him develop his relationship with God and prepare for his baptism in September.
Unfortunately, he got sick this weekend and wasn't able to come to church, but he's met the bishop and he's really excited to get to know more members.

Lilian:
We got a call Thursday night from Bishop - Lilian wasn't going to be in town on Saturday for her baptism. We called Lilian and turns out her husband's grandpa was going to turn 101 years old and they were going to go out of town to celebrate... So we've moved her baptism back another week. We're fasting and praying that it'll happen this weekend. Pray for us!

Please come to church:
We've worked really hard this week and invited lots of people to come to church! And lots of people said they would show up! So we were pretty disappointed when we had a whopping 0 investigators in sacrament meeting yesterday... But we're keeping our heads up and are going to end this transfer strong! (pray for us)

Some Troches stuff:
Troches is the member we rent from, he's the fattest man I've ever seen and he speaks to us in English. I love this guy, here's some of our favorite Troches quotes and jokes:

1. Transfers are next Tuesday (Happy birthday Kaitlyn) and everytime we come home, he looks at my companion (who we think will have transfers) and goes "11 days" "10 days" so today is "8 days" left

2. Troches: *speaking to us in English*
One of his workers (translated from drunk Spanish): hey stop talking in english, so I know you're not insulting me in English
Troches (in English): Ignore him Elders, he's an a******
Troches (in Spanish): Now I'm insulting you in English
    Troches (in English): Idiot

3. Troches, to my companion: You have a girlfriend? That's not good bro. If she breaks up with you... that's good bro. Pray that she breaks up with you man.

I'll think of some more to share in the future.
I love you all, make good choices!

Elder Jensen
