Chapter 50: Truckload of Investigators

Image
Roberto's baptism! Roberto and I wore Harry Potter ties to celebrate. It has been a week. I've already used the "best of times, worst of times" title once, but it this week is also deserving of it. Jumped out of a bus: On Monday, we were waiting for a bus, it came by, lots of people got off, many got on, and my comp and I were the last two to try to get on. I get on first, and as soon as I step foot on the bus it starts taking off  fast . My companion hadn't gotten on yet, and I was only just hanging on. Inside, someone fell over and pushed me, so it was either jump off or fall out. So I jumped. Landed on my feet, fell over on my left arm, sprained the wrist and slid on my back a few feet. Luckily I was wearing a backpack that took most of the blow, so I'm just fine apart from the wrist. So that was fun. Some not-so-great contacts: -Sober man yelling at us when we say "buenas tardes" to him. We just ignored him but he k...

Chapter 49: 365 Days Left

Me and Hermano Mauricio, my favorite taxi driver in Tegucigalpa Photos of the gorgeous views from my area. We're on top of a mountain, which makes for some cool pics, but a lot of uphill walking. I'm not baggy (trunky) I promise We've had a good week! We've been doing lots of visits with the bishop or other ward leaders and it's really cool how the members here are really motivated and willing to help us out in the work! This week we're preparing a joven named Roberto for baptism. He's 16 years old and a crazy kid. He loves the Gospel! The other day when we stopped by to visit him, Roberto was there with a less active young man, helping him do the homework from seminary because the less active had missed a lot of classes! I never thought I'd see an investigator of mine tutor a member on the Doctrine and Covenants. It was awesome! In 365 days, I'll be done with my mission! It's crazy how quickly time is flying. I re...

Chapter 48: Manantial

Image
Photos with members of my old ward Jardines de Toncontín Huge raincoats my new bishop lent us when we were completely unprepared for the rain Hey guys! It's been one awesome week! I got transferred! Bye Bye Office: So transfers were Tuesday, but I stayed in my old area a few days extra to teach the new secretary how to be a secretary, so I didn't get to my new area until Thursday night. Manantial: My new area is called Manantial (which means spring, like a spring of water) and it's gorgeous! The area is huge and actually comprised of several different neighborhoods (barrios), and we live in an area called la Cruz Roja, because the Red Cross built many houses here to relocate people affected by Hurricane Mitch. Cruz Roja (and Altos de Santa Rosa - another subdivision of our area) are built on top of mountains just outside the city. When from our house, we can see the city on one side, and a ton of rolling green mountains on the other....

Chapter 46: Another Baptism!

Me taking out the trash after a multizone conference a couple weeks ago We were visiting a less active family, and their son wanted to show us his pet turtle! Banana smoothies with Elder Sanchez A poor-quality photo of a gnarly rainstorm from a few days ago. It's been raining  a lot Me and my old comp, Elder Nolasco reunited at a multizone conference Hey guys! It's been a great week! A baptism! This morning we had Amy's baptism! It was awesome to see how she has been preparing and also how much her family has been working hard to become active in the Church again! It was really special to see how her father, Hernan has been working hard to be worthy to baptize his daughter, and there was such a sweet Spirit in the baptismal service! Tomorrow she'll be confirmed a member of the church! Go Bananas! We cut down the bananas from our banana tree in our backyard a couple weeks ago and all of a sudden they were all ripe this w...

Chapter 44: Multizones and protests!

Image
It's been an interesting week! A few scattered thoughts: -This last week Elder Sanchez and I put up a baptismal date with Amy Diana, the sweet daughter of an inactive family we've been working with -I got sick on Monday, I'm mostly better now, but my nose has been running almost non-stop for three days now, so that's annoying -Even though this area was a struggle for me in the beginning, and I spent my first two transfers here missing my little pueblo of La Esperanza, I'm really going to miss this area when I get transferred in a couple weeks -I'm starting to think a 5th transfer in the office wouldn't be the worst thing Multizones: Two weeks ago our mission president went to Guatemala for a training meeting with all the mission presidents in the Central America Area, and these last couple of days we've had our multizone conferences where President shared a lot of things they talked about in the President conference. The multizone wa...

Chapter 43: Post Transfer Stress

Sorry for not writing last week, I forgot to do a general email. Two weeks ago we had transfers! It was insane because 5 missionaries left and 19 came in! Also, we had an emergency change of venue for the training meetings with the new missionaries because they were painting the chapel in the building we normally hold it in! (the stake president forgot to mention that bit when he gave us the keys to the building). But overall the transfer went well. We're still dealing with trying to get materials to the 6 new houses we have in the mission, but that should be taken care of soon. We've been doing a lot of finding recently, especially because our family of investigators we used to always visit are still on vacation until the end of this week, and we've had some miracles! Last Saturday night we got home and realized that we didn't have any investigators committed to coming to church, which is not a great feeling, but then when we showed up to sacrament meeting t...
